The Brandenburger Tor in Berlin is located at the Pariser Platz in the town of Dorothy in the district of Mitte (district center). It was built in the years from 1788 to 1791 on the instructions of the Prussian king Friedrich Wilhelm II by Carl Gotthard Langhans and is the most famous landmark of the city. At the same time the gate is a national symbol by which many important events in the history of Berlin, Germany, Europe and the world of the 20th Century are linked. The building is the early classical style to assign.
The Brandenburger Tor is together with the Pariser Platz the end of the street Unter den Linden. On the west side of the gate is the place of the 18 March, where the street of the 17th June starts, which crosses the zoo.
The Brandenburger Tor marked the border between East and West Berlin and so the border between the states of the Warsaw Pact and NATO. It was up to the reunification of Germany, symbol of the Cold War and after 1990 it was the symbol of the reunification of Germany and Europe.
